Signs of unemployment insurance fraud or identity theft include:
- Someone receives correspondence, a TWC debit card, ID.me instructions, or a 1099 related to an unemployment insurance claim they did not apply for.
- Someone attempts to file for unemployment benefits for the first time, but they are told they already have an unemployment insurance claim filed.
- An employer receives correspondence related to an unemployment insurance claim with the name and social security number of a current employee or of someone who never worked for them. In some cases, the Social Security number belongs to a current employee but the name, address, or both are different. The employee confirms they did not initiate a claim.
